Panjab, India- The Sikh Panth, or nation, prevails over the Takht Jathedars-leaders of the five premier Sikh institutions-who withdrew their September gurmatta, or order, that had pardoned the Dera Sirsa Chief Ram Rahim's 2007 sacrilege against the Sikh religion yesterday. The September order stood in contradiction to a gurmatta passed in 2007 ( english translation of Gurmatta 2007 ) calling for the boycott of Ram Rahim. This issue has caused ongoing unrest within the Sikh community since 2007. A new gurmatta was issued on October 16th 2015 putting an end to this unrest. UNITED SIKHS salutes the international Sikh community for successfully exercising its right to make collective decisions. We thank Waheguru, or God, for the decision of the Takhat Jathedars to withdraw their pardon of the sirsa leader by paying heed to the voice of the panth. Sikh leaders, organizations, and individuals had vehemently opposed the pardon that was issued by the five Jathedars under a gurmatta passed on September 24, 2015, forgiving Sirsa Dera's Ram Rahim after he wrote a letter of apology. In a press release ( english translation of press release) issued yesterday by Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Jathedars have said that, taking note of the sentiments and aspirations of the Khalsa Panth, they called an urgent meeting of Jathedars of all the five takhts. Giani Kulwant Singh, Jathedar Takht Sri Hazoor Sahib could not attend in person, but was present over the phone. Raghbir Singh, Head Granthi Sri Darbar Sahib, Sri Amritsar, was included in the meeting.
In response to the overwhelming indignation of the international Sikh community, the five Takht Jathedars were forced to withdraw their September gurmatta (english translation of September Gurmatta) that had pardoned Sirsa Dera's Ram Rahim. In a gurmatta issued by Sri Akal Takhat Sahib, dated yesterday, October 16, the Jathedars said that they have withdrawn the September gurmatta because the Khalsa Panth had not accepted it.
