Memorandum presented by the Sikhs in Holland to the PM of India S. Manmohan Singh regarding the Turban ban in France.
Den Hague (Holland): Sikh community Beneluks, Punjab Rights Organistaion Beneluks, and Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) Holland presented a memorandum on 5th Nov. 2004 to the PM of India S. Manmohan Singh through the Indian Embassy. Bhai Charan Singh Ji, President and Bhai Harjit Singh Ji revealed that on the plea of the French Sikhs they had tried to seek an appointment with S. Manmohan Singh. In this context they had contacted Indian Embassyís First Sec. Mr. Man Mukherjee but he expressed his inability to fix the meeting due to a very busy schedule of the PM. He advised the leaders to express their feelings through a memorandum. The PM was reminded through this memorandum, his speech at the occasion of the 400 yrs of the Guru Granth Sahib wherein he had promised efforts to spread the message of the Guru Granth Sahib. Further the memorandum says that it is the prime duty of the PM to resolve the Turban ban in France which has threatened this gift of the Guruís. It also urged the PM to take up this issue with the European officials during his official visit to Holland. In a combined statement the three organisations pledged their continued support to the cause of Sikhi and the Turban. It is pertinent to remember that this memorandum was submitted on the behalf of the Sikhs of Holland.
