acts on the false alarm incident in Lodi. Assistant Bias Crime Director,
Manvinder Singh meets the State Officials in Trenton New Jersey. UNITED SIKHS
agrees to work with the community locally and throughout the UNITED SIKHS and
declares Vaisakhi April 14th as Dastaar/Turban day. UNITED SIKHS conducts a
turban tying competition with local organizations at Glenrock New Jersey.
This is the local Gurdwara where the kids who caused the false alarm attend
the congregation.

Glen Rock, NJ –
In lieu
of the recent Lodi incidents, UNITED SIKHS, along with
Sikh Youth of America and volunteers of Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha in
Glen Rock, NJ, held a turban tying competition for the youth on Sunday,
April11, 2004 in hopes of empowering the Sikhs of tomorrow with pride and
respect for their heritage. Approximately
45 Sikh youth from the New Jersey area participated in the turban tying
competition. The youth had been given
a turban-tying class as part of their Sunday school education at the
Gurudwara, which culminated into this contest. Along with the contest, various speakers were also invited to
present their views on the importance of the turban and uncut hair. Among the speakers was UNITED SIKHS
Assistant Director of Bias Crimes, Manvinder Singh, spoke on the historical
importance of the turban and uncut hair, as well as made the congregation
aware of the efforts of UNITED SIKHS in the campaign against the French
banning of the turban, as well as UNITED SIKHS’s efforts in resolving the
Lodi Incident. For pictures please
