JOB DESCRIPTION Start Date: As soon as practicable Work Hours: You will work 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, with occasional weekend work. You will not be paid for any overtime worked but you may take time off in lieu. You will work between the core hours of 9 am and 5 pm, but occasionally may be needed to work outside these hours to fulfil your duties. UNITED SIKHS’ work across three major time zones across America, Europe and Asia and you may be required to work outside your normal working hours to perform any tasks in conjunctions with other UNITED SIKHS chapters. Workstation: Remuneration: Salary will be based on experience + 2 weeks vacation We are an international humanitarian relief, advocacy and human development volunteer-based organization with chapters in the USA, Canada, UK, France and India. We run our projects with a constant reminder to ‘Recognize the Human race as One’. On a typical day a UNITED SIKHS volunteer does the following : responds to a request for educational literature from a prison inmate; helps a refugee center in the Netherlands to deal with a family who was being forced to return to Afghanistan , where there is no guarantee of religious freedom; takes legal action for victim of school bullying; writes a letter to a postmaster in California to allow a Sikh postman to wear a Dastaar (turban); runs community education classes at the Educare Center run by UNITED SIKHS interns and volunteers in New York; completes her internship in Panjab and says that she has been humbled; returns to her home country after a pilot study for a Make Poverty History project; helps the FBI trace a missing youth whilst providing advocacy support to the family. And when disaster strikes, our intrepid volunteers have been to all the areas hit by the Tsunami, Katrina and Rita hurricanes, Asian Quakes and Floods. 1) Operational support for UNITED SIKHS projects some of which are: International Civil and Human Rights Advocacy (ICHRA), SIKH-AID, MULTIFAITH, EMPOWERMENT & EDUCATION 2) Publicity, media and promotional initiatives 3) Editorial Management 5) Personnel and Volunteer Management 6) Project Administration support 7) Representing the Organization at meetings with related organizations 8) Work with International organizations such as the UN to fulfill joint objectives Please submit your resume AND references to: Issued by: |
