Sikhs Combat a "Climate of Fear" with Food

UNITED SIKHS' first food drive in Connecticut was held February 12th at Lee Memorial Chapel in Norwich. Up to 75 people in need received a home-cooked meal, complete with rice, beans, salad and a dessert.

Donate Blood and Save Lives!

Ontario: Every time you give blood, you save a life. It was with that goal in mind that the UNITED SIKHS coordinated blood donation events at Heartland Blood Clinic in Mississauga. The camps were held on the 8th and 15th of October 2016 and had a very large volunteer and community turnout.
UNITED SIKHS' Disaster Preparedness & Humanitarian Aid, volunteers and staff held an "Emergency Preparedness for the Gurudwaras" workshop at the Lankershim Gurudwara Sahib. This Emergency Preparedness Initiative provides solutions and guidance that help the Gurudwaras and its members know in advance what to do when confronted by an emergency, a natural disaster or by violence in their communities.
Sikhs Stand in Solidarity with Italian Quake Victims

Fabriano, Italy: UNITED SIKHS' Rishiwant Singh landed in Italy on August 30, 2016 to provide relief to the earthquake victims. An earthquake, measuring 6.2 ± 0.016 on the moment magnitude scale, hit Central Italy on 24 August 2016 at 03:36:32 CEST (01:36 UTC) causing a lot of destruction to the life and the property. A total of 292 people were reported dead. Of the 292 victims, 242 were from Amatrice and Accumoli.
UNITED SIKHS Louisiana Flood Relief Continues

According to CNN, 6,900,000,000,000 gallons of water rained down on 13 Louisiana, U.S.A. parishes as of August 18, 2016 during the worst flooding in U.S. History since Superstorm Sandy. UNITED SIKHS' Humanitarian Aid volunteers and staff from across the country have been physically in Louisiana working tirelessly to lend support while the Operations team garners funding to assist.
UNITED SIKHS Initiates Emergency Response to Louisiana Flood

Baton Rouge, Louisiana: Over the last two weeks, all of us have seen the devastation caused by the historic floods in Louisiana. This is likely the worst U.S. disaster we've experienced since Superstorm Sandy in 2012. Thousands of lives have been severely impacted. Innumerable families have been evacuated and are now placed in shelters .
Ludhiana, Panjab:The Entrepreneurship Skill Development Program on Garment Manufacturing organized by UNITED SIKHS at GurKirpa Health Network, Dhamot village, Ludhiana concluded on August 02, 2016. It was a project of Govt. of India's Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME).
Ludhiana, Punjab: A 40-day Entrepreneurship Skill Development Program on Garment Manufacturing organized by UNITED SIKHS kicked off on June 02, 2016 at village Dhamot in Ludhiana where the participants will be trained in garment manufacturing. The program will continue till July 08, 2016. We are assisted by Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises MSME - Development Institute in this endeavor.
Alberta Fires: How Can You Help!

As the devastating Alberta fire that was detected on May 1st begins to slow in growth, UNITED SIKHS as well as other organizations, continue to bravely hasten their services for the thousands of residents who were affected. Families' lives have been severely impacted and many only have the clothes on their backs. There is an urgent request for blankets, pillows, towels, hygiene kits and clothings of all kinds.
Sikh Community Responds to Alberta Fires

Alberta, Canada: Wildfires have destroyed at least 1,600 homes in Alberta, Canada, and forced the mandatory evacuation of 88,000 people -- including the entire city of Fort McMurray. Thousands of evacuees are camped out in nearby towns but stand little chance of returning soon, even if their homes are intact.
UNITED SIKHS partnered with Sri Guru Singh Sabha - Glen Rock Gurudwara in Glen Rock, New Jersey to provide a little warmth to the residents of Bergen County Housing by donating blankets and shoes.
Elderly UK Flood Victims Helped by UNITED SIKHS

Mytholmroyd, Yorkshire (UK): Sitting alone in a home with no lights and in complete darkness. This is what one elderly lady was doing until she heard a knock on the door. UNITED SIKHS volunteers had turned to help her clean up after the floods and to offer some hot snacks. "Thank you so much for all the help you have given us cleaning up and delivering food door to door to the elderly residents here," said local resident, Scott Hope, whose house has been severely hit by the floods.

Counselling Youths against Drugs Misuse

Toronto, Canada: UNITED SIKHS organised a Drug Awareness and Employment for Youth related Seminar and Kirtan Darbar at Rexdale Singh Sabha Gurudwara Sahib on Sunday, December 27, 2015. UNITED SIKHS was supported by the Punjabi Community Health Service and Rapport Youth and Family Service in this endeavour. Youngsters performed divine Gurbani Kirtan after completion of the seminar.

Nepal is still vivid in my imagination. I reached Nepal on 28th April, 2015; just three days after the first major earthquake. I was one of the first team members of the UNITED SIKHS team in Nepal. To reach Nepal at its need of hour was crucial, it took me many hours to reach Kathamandu because of congestion. Finally I reached Kathamandu where we set our base camp at Gurdwara Nanak Satsang at Kupondole.

UNITED SIKHS Spreads Love in Paris

Paris, France--Paris, known as the City of Love, is still reeling from shock after a series of bombings and armed attacks that shook the city on November 13th, 2015, and claimed 130 lives. On the heels of the attacks, the UNITED SIKHS team arrived in France to represent the Sikh community alongside thousands of mourners at Le Republique (Parisian square) during a candlelight vigil in memory of the victims.
UNITED SIKHS Launches Food Bank on East Coast, USA

New York, USA-UNITED SIKHS is humbled to announce the initiation of the UNITED SIKHS food bank in New York City, which covers all five boroughs - Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, and Manhattan, as well as the counties of Nassau and Suffolk in Long Island.
Seattle, Washington-UNITED SIKHS and the Sikh community of Washington have organized a relief effort in support of victims of the hundreds of wildfires that have devastated the state since July.

UNITED SIKHS Canada Drug Awareness Seminar

March 31st, 2015 Toronto, Canada. Last Sunday at Halton Gurdwara Oakville UNITED SIKHS with the patronage of Halton Gurdwara conducted a seminar on awareness of drug and alcohol abuse. In this seminar audience was made aware of the types of addictions, reasons for use and abuse. How to stop the abuse of these drugs was discussed in detail.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving, we are humbled to share with you that UNITED SIKHS GurKirpa Health Network has officially been inaugurated in Panjab and has already treated over 1000 patients, 40 of which were children.
“The literacy rate among Sikhs and other minority communities in Peshawar, especially for girls, is very poor. Girls in the tribal areas seldom get the opportunity to go to school due to the war against terrorism and poor socioeconomic status of the community in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Federal Administrator Tribal Areas (FATA).
Rishikesh, India- After weeks of relief efforts providing basic necessities to those affected by the deadly floods in Northern India, UNITED SIKHS has established a missing persons hotline and a website to assist flood victims in finding their loved ones currently missing. 31 January 2013, Peshawar, Pakistan: In recent months, UNITED SIKHS has spent £15,800 to rehabilitate 42 of the 70 internally displaced minority families from the troubled Khyber Agency, who were forced last year to flee their homes and settle in Peshawar and Punja Sahib Hasan Abdal.
