Sikh Held for Wearing Kirpan in Court, Charges Dropped

Charges against a Sikh truck driver, who was arrested June 18 for wearing a kirpan while entering Connecticut State Superior Court to contest a traffic ticket, were dropped July 7 by the state attorney’s office.
Sachdev Singh, 47, was arrested while passing through metal detectors to enter the court. His five-inch kirpan and turban were both stripped away from him forcibly as he was arrested, according to United Sikhs, a community advocacy group. After an hour of questioning, Singh’s handcuffs were removed and he was allowed to retie his turban.
He was then taken to jail for carrying a dangerous weapon, where his turban was once again removed, said United Sikhs in a press statement
