Press Release

University College London Students to Feed Langgar to 3000 over Six Hours

University College London, London, UK - The Sikh Society students of University College London will prepare and serve langgar (hot community meal) to some 3000 people during a six hour non-stop session from 10am to 4pm on 27th November 2009 at the South Cloisters, Main Building, on Gower Street. This will be the third time the Sikh Society will be laying on Langgar to thousands, to mark the end of its Seva (selfless service) week that is held every year.

The hot meal will be served to students, staff and visitors who will sit cross-legged on mats with their heads covered as a mark of respect for the langgar that is prepared at a Sikh Gurdwara.

The Langgar service will be followed at 4pm with a candle light vigil, at the same venue, jointly organised with Voices For Freedom, UNITED SIKHS and the British Sikh Students Federation. The vigil is being held to commemorate the unending wait for justice suffered by Sikh victims of the 1984 pogroms in India. The vigil details are here

The UCL Sikh Society is seeking volunteers to help prepare and serve the Langgar and to participate in the vigil. For more details see the poster here.
