UNITED SIKHS Expresses Grave Concern Over Fatal Shooting at United States Holocaust Memorial Museum

Washington, DC, USA: An 88-year-old rifle-wielding white supremacist, James von Brunn, opened-fire and fatally injured a security guard at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum yesterday. UNITED SIKHS, a U.N. affiliated non-profit human and civil rights advocacy organization, and the Sikh community strongly condemn the attacks and offer their deepest condolences to all affected and offended by today’s events.

Commenting on the incident, Jaspreet Singh, Staff Attorney, UNITED SIKHS stated, “The Sikh community is appalled by these outrageous attacks; Sikhs have often been victims of hate crimes and we stand with all Americans to condemn these heinous crimes. This incident is clear and unequivocal evidence that racial discrimination is still a reality in America, requiring immediate attention.”

UNITED SIKHS stands firmly behind the idea that hate-motivated crimes, as yesterday’s, are completely unacceptable and exhibit the need to prevent and diminish hate and bias motivated crimes. We support all of the current efforts the law enforcement agencies have put forth in dealing with this incident.
